Our Services
Understanding Tuberculosis Prevention
MAPTB works alongside communities, healthcare professionals and national partners to reduce tuberculosis transmission through evidence-based prevention, education and early intervention. Our key prevention activities include:
- Public Awareness & Health Education – Deliver nationwide campaigns to improve TB knowledge, reduce stigma and encourage early healthcare seeking.
- Early Detection & Screening – Promote timely TB screening and facilitate referral of individuals with symptoms or high-risk exposure.
- Contact Investigation – Support identification and screening of close contacts to interrupt TB transmission.
- Preventive Therapy Advocacy – Promote Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) for eligible individuals at increased risk of developing active TB.
- Community Outreach Programmes – Organise educational talks, exhibitions, workplace and community engagement activities across Malaysia.
- Healthcare Professional Development – Conduct continuous education, workshops and training to strengthen TB prevention, diagnosis and patient care.
- Youth & School Engagement – Empower students and young leaders to become TB ambassadors through education, advocacy and community participation.
- Research & Innovation – Support research, digital health technologies and evidence-based innovations to improve TB prevention strategies.
- Strategic Partnerships – Collaborate with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, WHO, Malaysian Thoracic Society, universities, NGOs and international partners to strengthen TB control efforts.
- Policy Advocacy – Advocate for sustainable policies and investments that contribute towards ending tuberculosis in Malaysia.
Bringing TB Services Closer to Communities
MAPTB works directly with communities across Malaysia to improve access to tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis, treatment and patient support through the following initiatives:
Community TB Awareness Programmes – Conduct nationwide health education campaigns, exhibitions, seminars and public engagement activities to increase awareness of tuberculosis and reduce stigma.
Patient Transportation Assistance – Provide transportation support for tuberculosis patients requiring referral to specialized centres, including the Institute of Respiratory Medicine (IPR), ensuring timely access to specialist care.
Assistance for Children with Tuberculosis – Support children diagnosed with tuberculosis by facilitating referral and transportation to designated respiratory and TB clinics for continued treatment and follow-up
MAPTB Chest X-ray Centre – To provide affordable chest radiography services for:
*Malaysian citizens
*Foreign workers under FOMEMA
*Individuals requiring TB screening
*Pre-employment and occupational health screeningThe centre supports early detection of tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases under the guidance of experienced respiratory specialists.
